Wonderful Crib Mattress Protector!, October 25, 2009 By This review is from: Simmons Kids Protect-A-Bed Crib Mattress Protector White (Baby Product) I love this mattress protector! Contrary to the previous reviewer, I had no issue with it tearing. The care directions recommend washing it in hot water (to sanitize it) with other linens and towels. I did this, but also took the precaution of washing it on a gentle cycle. Perhaps this is what made the difference. It fits the mattress nicely, has a Moistureban Cover to help repel water and urine, and features AllerCare to help prevent allergens. Since I have a history of allergies, I want this feature to help take care of my baby. As for the price, I am too frugal to pay the high (often $40 and $50) list price that certain stores and online stores sell this for. I shopped around and got it for much cheaper, and have been pleased with the quality of this item. I have several of these in white, and don't have any issues with this color. As a matter of fact, I like it because I can add it to my regular white towel load and nothing will bleed or transfer color.

I've had it over a year now, and as I only have one it gets washed frequently in hot water. I haven't seen any tears or any wearing down. The elastic part that wraps on bottom however seems pretty fragile and I wish it were a bit longer so that it would reach under the mattress further on each side. As it is, one side is always a little off the bottom, but it hasn't been sliding around or coming loose so I guess it's ok. So I haven't had any problems and would probably buy it again for the safer alternative to other waterproofing materials.

All synthetic material, May 25, 2010 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Simmons Kids Protect-A-Bed Crib Mattress Protector (Baby Product) I think I was looking for a different product - one of my babies gets sweaty in her sleep sack and I wanted some insulation between the plastic of the mattress and my baby. The description states: "Made of absorbent, breathable material and is cool and comfortable to sleep on".
Well, since this cover is waterproof there is just more plastic. But even the fabric on top of the plastic is not cotton. I bought a cotton shell Sealy Natural Cotton Crib Mattress Pad instead and am not using this cover. It withstood the wash in hot water on a regular cycle well and seems durable, just not the product I was hoping for.
